Plastic First Aid Box Specifications: What to Confirm Before Ordering

When sourcing a plastic first aid box, start with the contents and the available storage space. A box that looks right in a photograph may not hold your approved configuration once individually packed components, dividers and printed inserts are added.

For a bulk order, the useful comparison is a written specification supported by a loaded sample. This guide explains what to include so suppliers can quote the same product and your team can check the result.

Decide whether the order is for empty boxes or filled kits

An empty box quotation covers a different scope from a completed first aid kit. State whether you want the container only, a container with an insert, or a filled and labeled product ready for your next packing stage.

If your business will fill the boxes locally, identify any components that determine the internal layout. Provide their packaged dimensions, rather than measurements of the unpacked items. If the supplier will fill the kit, attach a versioned contents list with quantities and packaging details.

Do not compare an empty case price with a filled kit price. Ask each supplier to identify exclusions and optional charges in the quotation.

Confirm usable internal space

External dimensions help you plan shelves and shipping cartons. Internal dimensions determine what fits. Hinges, curved corners, lid profiles and inserts can reduce usable space, so a single length-by-width-by-height measurement may not settle the question.

Ask for a layout showing the proposed contents in their actual packaging. Check whether the box closes without pressure on the contents and whether the insert can be removed as intended. Include the printed contents sheet in this review if it will be packed inside the lid.

Specification Detail to record
Supply scope Empty box, box with insert, or filled kit
Size External size and usable internal space
Material Agreed material specification and finish
Layout Tray, dividers and position of packed components
Closure and carrying Latch arrangement, handle and any mounting requirements
Branding Artwork location, print area, color and method
Shipping pack Units per carton, carton size and gross weight

Review the closure and layout on the sample

Approve the box with the intended contents inside. Check that the latch engages, the lid aligns and the handle can be used as designed. Compare the sample with the dimensions and drawings agreed for your project.

If your purchase depends on an impact, dust or water-resistance claim, define the performance requirement and request relevant evidence for the finished configuration. A rigid shell or a visible seal alone does not establish a performance rating.

An existing box design and a newly developed design should be quoted separately where applicable. Ask whether a requested dimensional change involves tooling, sample work or a different minimum order. Do not assume that adding a logo and changing the box structure have the same cost or timeline.

Treat the label as part of the specification

Send the proposed artwork together with the product name, contents version and required languages. Confirm the usable print area before finalizing the design. Where barcodes are required, identify who supplies the data and who checks the printed result.

Review the label against the approved contents list. If you order empty boxes, the sales description and packaging should make that scope clear. If you order filled kits, confirm that the stated quantities match the final configuration.

Compare the packed order

Request the unit price, any setup charges, packing details and delivery terms as separate fields. Carton dimensions and quantities let your purchasing team compare the shipping plan as well as the product price. Estimates should be updated if the approved sample changes the packing arrangement.

Before production, keep the approved sample reference, contents revision, artwork revision and quotation together. Record which changes need written approval so a later material or layout substitution does not go unnoticed.
